| Description: | The Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and Georgia Trial Lawyers Association are pleased to announce the creation of an award that will recognize and honor a member of each organization for their civility and professionalism in the practice of law. Both GDLA and GTLA believe their members have an obligation to be professional with clients, other parties and counsel, the courts and the public. This obligation includes civility, professional integrity, personal dignity, candor, diligence, respect, courtesy, and cooperation, all of which are essential to the fair administration of justice. Nominations Process The nomination process for the award is simple. E-mail your letter of recommendation, nominating a plaintiff's lawyer/GTLA member to me, setting forth your reasons your nominee deserves the award. GTLA members will be sending defense lawyer/GDLA member nominations to my counterpart on the other side, GTLA Executive Director Emily Hurt. Deadline and Awards Presentation Nominations must be received by April 20. The inaugural awards will be presented on May 9, 2018, at the Capital City Club downtown at a reception from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Reception Registration Attendees will enjoy an open bar and hors d'oeuvres at the awards reception. Registration is $75 per GDLA/GTLA member; GDLA members register online here: http://gdla.org/index.php?page=cms_event_edit&id=90 Criteria and Frequency While it is expected that every other year each association will nominate a member of the other association for this award, which will be presented at a joint event to be determined by the GTLA and GDLA Executive Directors, there may be years where awards are not presented. It is also expected that included among the criteria each association will consider in selecting its award recipients will be the recipient's contributions to the enhancement of professionalism in the legal community and promotion of the highest levels of competence, integrity, and ethical conduct. Those attorneys who receive this award are expected to be individuals whose conduct demonstrably exceeds the minimum requirements of the Rules of Professional Conduct, individuals who set the standard of conduct each of us aspires to achieve. |
