Kirby Mason Elected GDLA President

New Officers & Board Also Elected

Kirby G. Mason, a partner in the Savannah office of HunterMaclean, was elected GDLA president during the 47th Annual Meeting, held June 12-15 at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club.

“Not only is the GDLA fortunate to have Kirby at the helm this year, but she is so deserving of the honor of serving as its next president,” said Theodore (Ted) Freeman, outgoing GDLA president and partner at Atlanta’s Freeman Mathis & Gary. “For nearly a decade, Kirby has worked her way up the ranks, excelling in every position to which she has been elected and ably handling each responsibility. I am confident in leaving our leadership in her good hands.”

Mason is a recognized litigator and has practiced at HunterMaclean for more than 20 years. She has successfully defended insurance companies, health care providers, and banking institutions, as well as a wide variety of businesses with employment, real estate, or other contract disputes.

Mason earned two B.A. degrees from Whitman College and graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, cum laude. A member of the American Bar Association and the Savannah Bar Association, she is admitted to the State Bars of Georgia, South Carolina, and Montana, and has been selected as a Fellow of the American Bar Association. In addition to her legal work, Mason has served the community in several organizations, including volunteering for Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, the Truancy Intervention Program of Chatham County, Habitat for Humanity, Clean Coast, and has served on several boards, including Boy Scouts of America, the Rape Crisis Center, the Emmaus House, Hancock Day School, and the Marshes of Skidaway Island. She is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Savannah.

Other GDLA officers elected include President-elect Matthew G. Moffett, Gray Rust St. Amand Moffett & Brieske, Atlanta; and Secretary-Treasurer Peter D. Muller, Goodman McGuffey Lindsey & Johnson, Savannah.  In addition, David N. Nelson, Chambless Higdon Richardson Katz & Griggs, Macon, was elected as one of four vice presidents. He joins the following three already serving in that capacity:  Hall F. McKinley III, Drew Eckl & Farnham, Atlanta; Sarah B. (Sally) Akins, Ellis Painter Ratteree & Adams, Savannah; and Craig C. Avery, Cowsert & Avery, Athens.

Newly elected to the GDLA board of directors were Jason D. Lewis, Chambless Higdon Richardson Katz & Griggs, Macon; and Ashley Rice, Waldon Adelman Castilla Hiestand & Prout, Atlanta. Re-elected were George R. Hall, Hull Barrett, Augusta; James D. (Dart) Meadows, Balch & Bingham, Atlanta; Wayne S. Melnick, Freeman Mathis & Gary, Atlanta; and James W. Purcell, Fulcher Hagler, Augusta.
